FK Law Chambers is headed by Prof. Angelo Mapunda. The firm’s general decision-making principle is based on broad consultation and consensus on any issue, and whenever necessary, majority opinion prevails.
The firm has put in place different management portfolios in response to the dictates of professional and administrative requirements as well as clients’ needs, demands and expectations. FK Law Chambers has three legal secretaries in its support of the legal team. They are: Ms. Fatma Said Mbaruk who also serves as Principal Office Administrator (POA); Ms. Perpetua Manyama who doubles as Front Office and Phone Operator, and Ms. Gonsalva Mswaga. The firms has an accountant assistant, Mr. Joseph Sedoyeka. It has extremely competent kitchen staff; a gardener and Court Clerk.
FK Law Chambers is organized in four principal departments each headed by one of lead partners. These departments reflect the firm’s level of specializations and professionalism, and each department is headed by a partner who is specialized in the areas of practice falling under his/her department’s portfolio. (a)Department of Taxation, Oil & Gas Law and International Trade and Finance Law
This department is headed by Mr. Martin Nasson. The department is adequately and well equipped with highly knowledgeable personnel: these are, Mr. Martin Nasson, a Specialist Tax Consultant, who retired from Tanzania Revenue Authority as the Commissioner for Large Taxpayers Department; Ms. Hadija Kinyaka, and Mr. Erasmo Nyika who is currently pursuing PhD studies on Oil & Gas Law at the University of Aberdeen, in Scotland – UK, focusing on Tanzania’s Oil and Gas Fiscal Regimes, as Associate Partners.
This department deals with a number of assignments and serves clients in all industry sectors, ranging from mining, oil and gas, manufacturing, farming, telecommunications, agriculture, construction, banking and financial services sectors, hospitality industries such as hotels, tourism and transportation. FK provides high quality, well-researched and highly vetted opinions, advice to clients on tax implications of their continuing or intended transactions, and a proposal to them on the most appropriate strategies of implementing their transactions with minimal tax exposure are extensively discussed. The tax department has also been very active in prosecuting complex tax disputes, commencing with objection proceedings, and appeals to the Tax Revenue Appeals Board, then to the Tax Revenue Appeals Tribunal, and ultimately to the Court of Appeal of Tanzania which are conducted professionally and comprehensively.
(b)Department of Corporate and Commercial Law
This department is headed by Mr. Deusdedith Duncan Mayomba. He is assisted by Advocate Edward Nelson Mwakingwe; Advocate Enidy Erasmus, and Advocate Upendo P. Ngaponda.
This department handles a wide array of commercial and corporate assignments ranging from assisting clients to set up their businesses; preparing corporate transactions agreements; providing company secretarial services; and advising on corporate forms and regulatory requirements. The department services clients from various sectors such as construction, banking, manufacturing, transportation, aviation, hospitality industries, mining and oil and gas. The lead partner, Mr. Duncan in 2012 was recognized as the leading lawyer in Tanzania by the International Financial Law Review (IFLR) – a leading financial and corporate law publication.
(c)Department of Litigation and Arbitration
This department is headed by Dr. Vincent Mkombozi Mhina. He is assisted by Advocate Sylivatus Sylivanus Mayenga; Advocate Juma Nyamugaruri; and Advocate Sabho Wambura.
This department assists clients on legal issues relating to employment, labour and immigration laws. This is the department that is directly undertaking litigation and arbitration. The lawyers in this department are experienced in court processes and offers assistance to lawyers working in the tax and corporate and commercial departments in matters relating to litigation and arbitration.
